Frequently asked questions
Below you will hopefully find answers to some of the questions you may have. If there's anything not covered below feel free to give us a call and we'll do our best to answer promptly.
WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE COASTAL DOG WALKERS?
There are several professional dog walkers in our area and generally speaking, you can't go wrong with whoever you choose as all of the ones we know are friendly and knowledgeable, the bottom line is you should use whoever you're most comfortable with - we have over 9 years of professional dog walking experience and we believe that the service we provide is second to none.
We always visit each potential new customer in person to explain the services we provide in detail. Uniquely we also offer all potential new customers a chance to speak with an existing customer so they can ask them what they think of Coastal Dog Walkers. Our customers are our best advert and they will give you an honest appraisal of the service we provide if you're thinking of hiring us.
WHERE CAN I SEE YOUR ONLINE REVIEWS?
We have a large number of reviews on Google. Click to see the Google reviews we have from some of our past and current customers.
WHICH AREAS DO YOU COVER?
Our dog walking activities cover some of North Shields, Tynemouth, Cullercoats, Marden Estate and a small amount of Whitley Bay.
DO YOU CHARGE FOR YOUR TRAVEL TIME?
No, you will only be charged for the duration of the actual walk so if you pay for a 1 hour walk you will be charged £11 and your dog will be walked for an hour (often we're out a little longer but you'll still only be charged for one hour).
WHERE DO YOU WALK THE DOGS?
As a North Shields dog walker, we often find ourselves on the Fish Quay, Tynemouth Promenade, Northumberland Park, Cullercoats or Whitley Bay - the list goes on! There are lots of fantastic places to go just on our doorstep, too many to mention!
DO YOU LET THE DOGS OFF THE LEAD?
In a word, no. On a walk, we usually cover about 3.5 - 4 miles. We keep all of the dogs close by on their leads as we feel we have a lot more control over any given situation than we would if we had dogs running around off their leads. Most other dog walking companies let their dogs off the lead but for us, we prefer to always err on the side of caution and minimise any potential risk.
HOW FAR IS AN AVERAGE WALK?
We cover approximately 3.5 to 4 miles on a normal lead walk so your dog will get plenty of exercise despite not being allowed off the lead.
WHAT IS AN AVERAGE SIZE PACK?
3 or 4 dogs is an average amount and we always group dogs of a similar temperament. Feel free to read our pack walking blog on this very subject! We now offer one to one walks for owners who prefer this.
DO YOU HAVE INSURANCE?
Of course. We are insured for all of the services provided by Coastal Dog Walkers. i.e. walking dogs and all that entails. If you hire us we will, of course, provide you with a copy of our insurance details.
ARE YOU CRB CHECKED?
Yes although it is now called a DBS check.
MY DOG IS A LITTLE ANTI-SOCIAL, DO THEY HAVE TO WALK IN A PACK?
We do offer one-to-one walks if we have space. Also, we are happy to at least try and get your dog socialised into a small pack if this is something you wish to explore. We have had some success with dogs that were initially reactive with other dogs so don't write your dog off just yet if they are a little anti-social, you might be surprised how often dogs can be a little bit grumpy but they almost always come round with a bit of training and patience. Ultimately though if it's a one to one walk you want then we are happy to do that.
MY ADULT MALE DOG HAS NOT BEEN NEUTERED. CAN YOU STILL TAKE HIM?
Unfortunately not. Although your dog may be great when you walk him we have found that more often than not they are not suited to pack walks. For further information on why we have this policy please read our blog on the matter. Male puppies are the only exception to this provided their owner is sure they'll be neutered in due course.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I CANCEL A SESSION?
That is not a problem, we are easy-going and realise that there will be times where you simply don't need us to walk your dog. You can cancel sessions at no cost to yourself if you give us 24 hours notice.
DO YOU HAVE A FACEBOOK AND INSTAGRAM PAGE?
We do have a Facebook and an Instagram page. You can access those by clicking on the Facebook or Instagram icons at the bottom of this page.
DO YOU DO PUPPY VISITS?
We do. Please get in touch to discuss as puppy visits are a little more involved than a standard dog walk. When we take on a puppy a 'typical' solution to the puppies needs is often 2 x 30 minute visits per day assuming you're out of the house for a regular working day, i.e. around 8 hours. These 2 x 30 minute sessions are themselves split into a short walk and a separate play session as puppies when they are very young simply cannot go for a walk for the full half-hour so we spend the remainder of the visit reinforcing basic commands like sit, lie down etc as well as playing with the pup, nurturing the pup and cleaning up after the pup.
DO YOU BOARD DOGS?
Walking and puppy visits are our main focus but we can help you with this too as we have contacts that offer this service.
WHAT IS YOUR COOKIE POLICY?
Like all other websites we use cookies to track visits to our website, we ask for and therefore store no personal details.
ARE YOU HIRING?
We may be hiring at this time and we're always on the lookout for experienced people to join our growing team. Feel free to get in touch!
